Trading Tides is a design that communicates movement rather than stillness. To the casual eye, the artwork appears divided by colour; however, upon closer examination a story of movement, connection, and history begins to emerge. For countless generations, the waters of the Torres Strait facilitated trade and cultural exchange between mainland Australia, the islands, Papua New Guinea, and neighbouring regions to the north. Through this lens, the Torres Strait emerges not as a boundary, but as a bridge. The islands may appear as fragments scattered across the sea, yet together they form steppingstones to another world.
